This teaching is an intensive study on the laws of adoption in the ancient Near East and how they shed light into the context of the Bible. One of the biggest challenges facing the Hebrew Roots movement and causing much division is that of identity. Many are coming out of Christianity and finding that our place within the Kingdom is a topic of controversy which leaves us wondering, are we Israel? Gentiles? Jews? Should we keep all of Torah or just the “Noachide” laws?
In this 6 hour teaching, Rico will present how Paul utilized legal terms of adoption formulas that were well understood in the ancient Near East. Much of this research was not discovered until the late 1800’s in the form of the Nuzi Tablets, Amarna Texts, Hittite Legal Codes, and the Laws of Hammurabi. The usage of these texts does not override Scripture, but does give us a greater understanding of political, social, and religious culture in Biblical times
